Troubleshooting FAQ's

If you are having trouble with using the PhotoScreener, review the list below to see if you can find an answer to your issue.

Camera will not turn on when battery powered

  • Was the aiming light button held for one full second?
  • If low battery LED is lit, then recharge battery or operate from the AC/DC power supply or recharge.
  • Did 'on' display briefly? Try operating off the SC/DC supply. If camera turns on, then batteries were low. Operate from AC/DC power supply or recharge.

Camera will not turn on when AC powered

  • Was the aiming light button held for one full second?
  • Check the wall outlet by plugging in another appliance or lamp at the same wall outlet.
  • Check for wrong power supply. Use only the power supply provided with your PhotoScreener.
  • Press the reset button, which is located near the upper left corner of the film count display. Wait one minute, then press the aiming lights button.

Camera batteries will not charge

  • Retry the four step charging procedure.
  • Check the wall outlet by plugging in another appliance or lamp at the same wall outlet.
  • Was the camera allowed to charge for 14 hours?
  • Was the power interrupted during the charge cycle? If so, then the 4 step charge procedure must be restarted.
  • If the batteries will not hold charge, you may need to replace the battery pack.

Aim lights not vertically aligned

  • Tighten the screws in the front feet of the camera with a 5/64" hex driver just until snug. Focus aim lights on a wall and loosen the screw in the foot below the lower aim light until correct alignment is achieved.

Flash does not operate

  • Aiming lights must be on and Picture 1 (or 2) LED lit.
  • Is another "action button" held down at the same time? Press only the shutter button.
  • If the low battery LED is lit, then plug in the AC/DC power supply.

Unusual display, camera does not operate normally and/or camera doesn't shut down after 5 minutes of inactivity

  • Press the reset button, which is located near the upper left corner of the film count display. This will turn the camera off. Wait one minute, then press the aiming lights button to resume operations at the same point in the cycle where the reset button was pressed.

Photograph out of focus

  • The distance between camera and subject is not correct. Position the camera where the aiming lights just overlap at their points to form an "X."

Eyes not centered in the photograph

  • Aim point is incorrect. The points of the aiming lights should be centered left to right on the forehead and positioned 1.4 inches above the pupil center.

Photograph doesn't develop correctly

  • Dark and/or light spots and streaks on the photo can result from improperly stored film.
  • Overexposed pictures may be caused by reflection of unwanted strobe light or by exposed to x-rays.
  • A photograph with completely white side indicates loss of tension on the film door rollers. Check for loose film door spring and reinsert end of spring into holder.
  • Grainy looking areas that are predominantly at the bottom of the photograph are caused by cold film. Allow refrigerated film to warm up to room temperature before use.
  • Fogged over appearance of photograph results when film has been stored above the recommended temperature.
